Protecting one of Connemara’s most precious natural resources.
Reducing our water usage is a major priority for us at Ballynahinch Castle. The hotel has its own on-site water treatment plant, which means we are entirely self-sufficient and not connected to any mains water system. βWe understand that excessive water usage has a huge impact on our environment. As a result, we have taken several actions to reduce our usage.
- We have installed water-efficient taps, showers, and toilets, towel and linen reuse programmes, as well as recycling and composting programmes.
- In 2025, we have set a reduction target of 6% for our water consumption.
- We plan to install rainwater catchment tanks to water some of our fruit and vegetable production.
- We use untreated river water for our walled garden, thus reducing waste and energy.
Water Conservation in Action:
In 2024, we used just 352 Litres of water per guest night, which is well below the sector leader (490 Litres ) and the industry average (700 Litres ). A clear reflection of our commitment to responsible, sustainable hospitality.
