SUSTAINABILITY AT BALLYNAHINCH
Our Goals & Objectives
- Sustainability at our core – Caring for our landscape and reducing our environmental impact is central to life at Ballynahinch, today and for generations to come. As a proud partner of Relais & Chateaux, we hope to follow the principles in line with Relais’s 12 Commitments to Sustainability In Harmony with All Life on Earth, which is endorsed by UNESCO.
- Lowering our carbon footprint – We are reducing reliance on fossil fuels through renewable energy, improved efficiency, and cleaner solutions such as BioLPG, with a goal to become carbon neutral by 2035.
- Clear, measurable targets – By 2025, we aim to reduce energy use by 7%, water consumption by 5%, food waste by 15%, and landfill waste by 17%.
- Reducing waste, naturally – From eliminating single-use plastics and unnecessary packaging to installing green roofs and on-site food composting, we’re embracing a circular approach to sustainability.
- Protecting biodiversity – We actively remove invasive species and plant native trees, safeguarding the natural beauty of our estate.
- Supporting local & responsible partners – We work closely with Irish producers and trusted suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability.
- Sustainable stays – As proud members of Green Hospitality, we are exploring opportunities for guests to carbon-neutralise their visit, making every stay more meaningful.
