Peter O’Reilly, best-selling angling writer, game angling adviser to the Central Fisheries Board and member of the elite Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors, has been running his very successful fly-fishing school at Ballynahinch for many years.
Peter’s courses (see dates below) are designed for absolute beginners, but they are also popular with those in need of technical refreshment. They offer comprehensive practical guidance on all aspects of fly-fishing for salmon and trout. The basic courses cover both river and lake fishing, wet-fly and dry-fly fishing, casting with single-handed and double-handed rods, including spey-casting, roll-casting and casting into the wind, knot techniques, equipment review and a wide range of practical guidance on river-craft, boat management and general fishing skills.
All courses are strictly limited to eight participants so as to maximise individual care and attention. After two or three days with Peter, you will be equipped with all the knowledge and skills required for a long and successful fly-fishing life.
Peter is the perfect teacher, with a remarkable and rare ability to identify technical casting faults and to cure any problems with the minimum of fuss. An enchanting man, Peter communicates well with all his students and you are certain to benefit hugely from his individual attention.
All courses are residential and include full-board accommodation in the majestic Ballynahinch Castle, where you can relax and be consumed by the atmosphere, fine food and extensive wine list.
