Fishing News 2010

Regular updates of fishing and conditions

26th July 2010
The fishing at Ballynahinch in July has been mildly frustrating to say the least.  The largest run of July salmon in over a decade has passed us by in the high water giving great fishing to Lough Inagh.  Having had a month in June with hardly a bucket of water in the river and only a handful of salmon caught , the river has stayed high since 1st July.  Just 20 salmon have been landed in the past four weeks, however, this figure should be closer to 40.  The fish are a nice size ranging from 4-8lbs and all fresh with sea lice.  Now that the water levels are dropping the coming weeks should see some great fishing with the resident  "Ballynahinch" fish arriving in good numbers.

Top rods for the month have been regulars, Jack Meredith and Miles McDowell.  Philip Bellamy and Philip McDowell have taken some nice fish in the past few weeks also.

The sea trout fishing has been sporadic in the high water.  It has been the best year in many for catching big sea trout up to 3lbs, however, the smaller finnock trout are only about in small numbers.  Maybe in the coming weeks, in the evening, we will see some better fishing for trout.

There are a limited number of places available on the river in the coming weeks.  Book at reception on 095 31006
