Connemara Abalone, located in Rossaveel, South Connemara, located 50 minutes from the hotel, is fully dedicated to cultivating abalone. Their state-of-the-art aquaculture farm, situated on the rugged shoreline where the Atlantic Ocean meets Galway Bay, specialises in the premium Japanese species Ezo (Haliotis discus hannai). Abalone, a highly prized shellfish delicacy, has become scarce globally. Introduced to Ireland in the 1980s, abalone is now commercially farmed by several producers, including Connemara Abalone in Galway and TowerAqua in Cork.
